Description

Comprising hundreds of photos of everyday New York City, whatdoyousee.nyc invites users to reclaim their subjectivity and contribute to a participatory archive of the urban experience. Simply tap anywhere in a photo to create a new tag and share what you see, whatever it may be.

Taken on an iPhone SE mostly around the artist’s neighborhood in Queens, the photos encourage users to pay attention to details so ubiquitous as to be completely overlooked - downed internet cables dangling over the street, fallen leaves perched neatly on windshields, sidewalk markings indicating a maze of pipes underneath. The simple tagging infrastructure makes navigating this material reality a breeze. Browse all photos, filter by tags, uncover patterns, and marvel in the diverse interpretations of seemingly objective things.

Whatdoyousee.nyc is part of an ongoing inquiry into the capitalist everyday by Molly Baker Ragan, a curiosity-driven researcher, organizer, and educator based in Ridgewood, Queens.
